AI powered search is quickly becoming the new frontier of visibility. As platforms like Gemini, ChatGPT, and Perplexity shift how users discover information, brands can no longer rely solely on traditional SEO tactics to stay competitive.

AI search doesn’t just look at keywords — it interprets context, understands nuance, and surfaces content that best matches user intent. To stay relevant in this new search landscape, your website needs to be optimised for how AI thinks, not just how humans type. At TDS we’re finding that this subject is changing and adapting so quickly that it’s hard to give advice knowing that the game could adapt in a matter of weeks or months, however, here are 10 ways we believe your website will benefit from AI ranking to earn visibility where it matters.

Building Topical Authority for Smarter AI Powered Search Visibility

AI POWERED SEARCH

In order to establish topical authority online, we need to look beyond keyword targeting. Your website should be strategic and link semantically optimised content that covers a wide range of topics whilst maintaining depth. If you imagine that AI systems have a number of sources it can turn to, it’s easy to imagine that it will rank your website based on the authority of other sites linking to it. Things like reviews, traffic from social channels, and engagement time will all start to support whether or not your content is relevant to the user.

This means ensuring the content you’re publishing is related to answering, not just the obvious queries but the dozens of related questions which may come up relating to the topic, and ideally it’s referenced by other highly relevant and well established domains with good authority.

The ‘Search Everywhere Optimization’ approach, centres around ensuring you’re contextually relevant to the queries someone may ask Google, Gemini, AI Assistants or social media. If you can clearly answer these targeted queries then you position yourself as an authoritative voice in your niche; in turn increasing visibility, engagement and ultimately conversions.

Is Your Website’s Content ready to be read by an AI Powered Search Engine?

Beyond Text Based Content

Centring on text content can limit your visibility when it comes to AI systems. AI Mode pulls from visual, video, and audio systems to create the full picture of answering an individual’s query. If your website strategy is limited to one text medium, you’re limiting your AI system rankings, and not competing in this search environment. This means that while video and image content becomes more important, the way that this content is tagged, the metadata associated, along with things like transcripts and image descriptions can be powerful to help this content find the right users, by being understood by LLMs like chat gpt.

Is Your Website User Driven?

AI Mode centres around the user’s experience. The queries are responded to with the user in mind. This means that your website should be personalised with the user experience in mind. AI Mode will look into user embeddings such as digital fingerprints based on click history, content engagement history, location, demographics and further user based information. Previously Google has recommended keeping the user experience in mind, however, this is more crucial than ever.

How unique is your content?

AI Mode favours unique content. Re-creating the same content over and over again doesn’t allow you to tap into that niche search market or compete with big players. Use custom data relevant to your business which stands out because it’s unique!

Use your knowledge to translate into something truly unique, which will in turn be more beneficial to your audience and place more.

Looking to the future: how will an agent correspond this information?

Although we’re not yet in a world where agents mediate marketing communications (but we’re getting there fast), there will come a time when marketers will need to learn how to connect with their audience through agents.

These agents will become personal assistants, from purchasing a laptop to booking dentist appointments. Therefore, we need to start considering how these AI agents will read and interpret our website’s content, and how our content is intended to be used. For example there may be a significant difference between a product page, and an FAQ section in terms of what we’d like to present, and where we would expect it to show in a conversation.

Look Beyond the Keywords

AI-powered search, like Gemini, captures user intent far beyond what’s written in the initial prompt. It doesn’t just respond to keywords, it interprets meaning by analysing context, user history, and behaviour to synthesise intent. As a result, traditional keyword search volumes are becoming less reliable indicators of demand.

Instead of chasing high-volume terms, focus on creating semantically rich content that explores related ideas, addresses a variety of user needs, and demonstrates deep topical expertise. Success in AI-driven environments depends on relevance, not repetition and as previous points show, unique content also stands out here.

Audit your content regularly for relevance and frequency

In the new age of AI, relevance becomes paramount. It is vital to continuously audit the website’s content to ensure it is relevant and insightful. The most important way to ensure you’re doing this is by retiring outdated content and ensuring what remains is topically relevant and current. This can mean repurposing old articles and updating their content for industry changes or updates in the field.

Use The Right Tools to Look into AI Powered Search Rankings

As we move towards a world where AI-powered search becomes the default path for discovery. Traditional SEO tools no longer cut it. At TDS we are still learning, and are trying to figure out what upcoming tools will be used for this.

Tools like ‘Profound’ allow us to zone in on rankings specifically with Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI search in mind. The tool allows you to look into sentiment analysis, citation frequency and AI share of voice. This allows you to look beyond simple search rankings, and see how your brand is being interpreted, references, and ranked in an AI driven experience across platforms. I imagine it will work towards becoming the ‘SEMrush’ of AI, and lots of others will likely attempt to fill the demand that this movement will bring.

Google Search Console no longer provides the complete picture when thinking with a Search Everywhere Optimization in mind.

Success Metrics are Ever-Changing

Google hasn’t provided concrete data to support its claim that clicks from AI Overviews come from “more engaged audiences” who are “more likely to spend more time onsite.” However, their advice to “understand the full value of your visits” is still worth taking seriously. Focus on lower-funnel KPIs, like conversions, lead quality, or purchase intent and monitor how those metrics are trending over time. We’re keen to see how users are interacting who arrive from AI systems, against the average user. For example, it’s possible to create a channel in GA4 filtered for users arriving from websites like chatgpt.com or perlexity, Claude, or Gemini. This will help see the impact AI systems are having on your web traffic.

Build your Brand! Exposure is everything

Your brand being present on multiple channels increases your authority and reputability. In turn your chance of showing in AI responses. Digital PR is a great way to get your brand name out there and begin cultivating a growing eco-system for your brand. Being present on social media, blog posts, podcasts or webinars these all combine to cultivate what makes your brand discoverable.

AI is revolutionizing many areas of digital infrastructure and marketing. Here we’ve evaluated the affects on SEO and how to further optimise our web strategy, however to learn more about how AI may affect your marketing strategy, click here, or use the contact form to speak to an expert.
